Henry Blumberg, MD

Developmental Core Co-Director

Henry M. Blumberg, MD is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Emory University School of Medicine and Professor of Epidemiology and Global Health at the Emory Rollins School of Public Health and serves as the Co-Director of the Developmental Core of the TRAC. He also serves as Director of Clinical and Translational Research Training Programs at Emory and for the Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance (Georgia CTSA, the NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award). He serves as MPI of the NIH-funded Georgia CTSA KL2 and TL1 grants. Dr. Blumberg’s academic interests focus on tuberculosis-related research, global health, and clinical and translational research training. Dr. Blumberg served as a dual PI for an NIH NIAID-funded TB Research Unit (TBRU), which was a more than $20 million grant over 8 years focused on the TB immunology with a particular focus on latent TB infection. Dr. Blumberg’s TB research training activities are focused in the county of Georgia and in Ethiopia. These activities are supported by two NIH Fogarty International Center Global Infectious Diseases D43 grants that are focused on didactic and mentored research training of young investigators in Georgia and Ethiopia and enhancing the public health infrastructure for TB-related research and TB control. He is also the site PI at Emory for an NIH Fogarty International Center grant (Health-Professional Education Partnership Initiative) focused in Ethiopia in collaboration with Addis Ababa University. Dr. Blumberg also serves as Co-Program Lead/Co-Program Director of the Emory/Georgia TRAC Developmental Core. Dr. Blumberg is a Fellow in IDSA and in SHEA. He previously served as the Chair of the IDSA TB Committee and as a member of the IDSA Center for Global Health Policy Scientific Advisory Committee (2008-2016) and the NIH-funded ACTG Tuberculosis Transformative Science Group (TSG) [2011-2017]. He is a member of the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Research (NCATS) Workforce Development Enterprise Committee (hub voting member). Dr. Blumberg is the author or co-author of more than 200 peer reviewed publications.
